크리스프 웨지는 오는 2026년 8월 27일부터 9월 17일까지 정재인의 개인전 《나는 매일 밤 거미집을 망친다》를 개최한다. 이번 전시는 2026 Crisp Wedge Frize 선정 작가 개인전으로 마련되었으며, 작가가 최근 1년간 발전시켜온 회화적 태도의 변화를 신작 중심으로 소개한다.

작가는 매일 밤 같은 자리에서 다시 얽히는 거미줄을 닦아내는 반복적 행위에서 이번 전시의 출발점을 가져온다. 거미가 끊어질 것을 알면서도 매일 새로 집을 짓듯, 정재인은 완결이 아니라 미결의 상태를 그림의 조건으로 받아들인다. 이는 본다는 것과 안다는 것 사이의 간극, 기억이 원인과 결과를 잃고 감각의 단서로만 남는 순간에 대한 작가의 오랜 관심과 맞닿아 있다.

정재인은 삶에서 마주친 사건들, 허구보다 낯선 일상의 장면들을 은유적 형상으로 화면에 옮겨왔다. 이번 신작에서는 드로잉으로 심상을 먼저 정리하던 이전 방식에서 벗어나, 감각에 의존해 화면을 직접 구성하는 방식으로 작업 태도가 이동했다. 색감의 변화도 뚜렷하다. 이전 연작에서 주로 쓰였던 에메랄드빛과 새벽의 푸른 톤 대신, 이번 전시에는 붉은 톤이 화면 전반을 채운다.

화면 구성에서도 실험이 이어진다. 유화 물감이 리넨에 스며들고 번지는 감각, 붓이 표면에서 밀려나는 저항감에 주목하며 촘촘하고 부드러운 표면을 쌓아온 작가는 이번 신작에서 모델링 페이스트를 도입해 화면에 두께와 촉각적 질감을 더했다. 달의 차고 기움, 날개로 변주되는 손가락의 형상, 이면의 세계로 이어지는 통로가 되는 달의 이미지 등 서로 다른 시간과 경험이 스며들며 새로운 풍경으로 번져나가는 과정이 화면 곳곳에서 발견된다.

이번 전시는 정재인의 작업을 하나의 고정된 의미로 수렴시키기보다, 기억과 시선이 느슨하게 이어지고 때로 엇갈리는 상태 그대로를 드러내는 자리다. 크리스프 웨지는 이 전시를 통해 결핍이나 미완을 오히려 작업을 지탱하는 조건으로 다루는 작가의 태도를 소개하고자 한다.

정재인(b.1992) 작가는 관계의 불완전함과 시선의 어긋남에서 기인하는 복잡한 감정들을 회화적 언어로 탐구한다. 지지체 위에서 스며들고 부유하는 유채의 물성을 조율하며, 이미지와 서사 사이의 간극을 촘촘하게 메워 나간다. 일상의 평범한 장면을 새로운 형상으로 탈바꿈시켜 우리가 믿는 진실 너머의 또 다른 이면을 추적한다.

Crisp Wedge is pleased to present Every Night I Ruin the Spider's Home, a solo exhibition by Jaein Jung, on view from August 27 through September 17, 2026. Organized as the solo presentation for the artist selected through the 2026 Crisp Wedge Frize, the exhibition centers on new paintings that trace a shift in Jung's pictorial attitude over the past year.

The exhibition takes its starting point from a recurring act: every night, in the same spot, the artist wipes away a spiderweb that reforms by morning. Just as a spider rebuilds its web each day knowing it will break again, Jung Jae-in treats the unfinished—rather than the completed—as the very condition of painting. This stance is tied to her longstanding interest in the gap between seeing and knowing, and in the moment when memory, severed from cause and effect, survives only as a fragment of sensation.

Jung has long translated events encountered in life—everyday scenes stranger than fiction—into metaphorical form on canvas. In this new body of work, she departs from her earlier method of first working through images in drawing, moving instead toward composing the picture plane directly through sensation. The shift in palette is equally pronounced: in place of the emerald and pre-dawn blue tones that characterized her previous series, red now dominates the surfaces on view.

Formal experimentation continues elsewhere in the work. Long attentive to the sensation of oil paint seeping and spreading into linen and the resistance of the brush against the surface—qualities she has used to build dense, soft-textured planes—Jung introduces modeling paste in these new paintings, adding thickness and tactile texture to the canvas. Throughout the exhibition, different times and experiences bleed into one another and expand into new landscapes: the waxing and waning of the moon, fingers that transform into wings, and the moon as a passage into a world beyond the visible recur across the works.

Rather than resolving Jung Jae-in's practice into a single fixed meaning, this exhibition presents memory and gaze exactly as they are—loosely linked, at times diverging. Through this presentation, Crispwedge introduces an artist who treats lack and incompletion not as deficiencies but as the very conditions that sustain the work.

Jaein Jung(b.1992) explores, through the language of painting, the complex emotions that arise from the imperfection of relationships and the misalignment of gazes. Modulating the material qualities of oil paint as it seeps into and floats upon its support, she carefully closes the gap between image and narrative. Transforming ordinary everyday scenes into new forms, she traces another side of truth beyond what we believe to be real.
